Suspect 'admits' murdering nurse after she refused loan

The suspected killer of a 48-year-old medical nurse in Ayutthaya has admitted to murdering her in a fit of anger after she refused to lend him 10,000 baht and instead insulted him for asking to borrow the money, police said on Tuesday.

Un Fugsiri, 33, a former employee at Ayutthaya's Phachi Hospital, said he slit Srisupang Suwansilp's throat as she sat in her car before moving her body to the back seat, said Pol Lt Gen Amphon Buarapphon, commissioner of Provincial Police Region 1.

Mr Un also stole a gold necklace and a gold ring from the victim before he drove her car to the driveway of a house opposite Phachi Hospital where the car and the body was found.

Police identified Mr Un from security camera footage.

Mr Un also told police investigators he came across the nurse as she was leaving work that day and asked for a lift home. Once en route he asked to borrow money from her, said Pol Lt Gen Amphon.

Dr Thapakon Chittanoon, the director of the hospital, said the suspect had told police he killed the nurse because he wanted her valuables, so the killing had nothing to do with an affair between them as had been speculated after her body was found.

The doctor said the speculation had surprised him and others as nobody at the hospital had heard any rumours to that effect.
