Suspect, 28, named after police arrest driver in Birkenhead tunnel

A Liverpool man was charged with drug offences after being stopped close to the Queensway Tunnel in Birkenhead yesterday afternoon.

Kevin Hughes, 28, of Mallow Road in Kensington was arrested after the grey VW Polo he was travelling in was stopped close to the Birkenhead entrance to the tunnel in Wirral at 3.10pm on Wednesday 5 May.

He was detained and after a search of the car a quantity of Class A drugs were found inside the vehicle.

Merseyside Police has confirmed the man was charged with possession and intent to supply Class A drugs and driving while unfit through drugs.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At 3.10pm officers stopped a grey VW Polo near the Queensway Tunnel, detained a man and following a search of the car, seized a quantity of Class A drugs.

"Kevin Hughes, 28, of Mallow Road, Liverpool has now been charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs.

"He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court this morning (Thursday 6 May)."
