Sushant Singh Rajput drug case: Kunal Jani’s lawyers' statement on his arrest by the NCB

After the Narcotics Control Bureau arrested late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s friend Kunal Jani in the drug case, now Jani’s lawyers Prashant Patil and Swapnil Ambure have issued a new statement in the cast.

Reacting to the arrest, the statement read, “Mr. Kunal was produced before the Magistrate, we pointed it out that at the best the allegation is of personal consumption that too of some random incident which alleged to have happened 4 years ago! This is not a serious allegation and attracts punishment to the extent of one year!!”

It further added, “In fact, statute also produced that opportunity must be given to correct the wrong and the Applicant can’t be prosecuted if he undergoes probation for getting rid of the addiction, if there is one! In view of the holidays and pending medical report, Court remanded Mr. Kunal to NCB custody till 4th October.”

Earlier today ANI had tweeted ''Drugs cases related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput | Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested hotelier Kunal Jani (in file pic) from Mumbai's Khar area. He was a close friend of Rajput and was absconding.''

Last month, the NDPS court had rejected the bail plea of SSR's flatmate and friend Siddharth Pithani once again. Pithani's lawyer Taraq Sayyed confirmed the development. The Zonal Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Sameer Wankhede revealed that the court dismissed the application because they didn't find any merit in the plea.

On June 14, 2020, actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence. Ever since then the three central agencies- the Central Bureau of Investigation, Narcotics Control Bureau and Enforcement Directorate are investigating the mysterious death case of SSR.
