Susanna Reid struggles to speak as she shares heartbreaking message from GMB viewer

Susanna Reid was left struggling to speak on Good Morning Britain this morning as she read a heartbreaking message from a viewer.

The presenter and co-host Piers Morgan were discussing the plight of families who have loved ones in care homes.

It comes after it was announced that a new pilot is set to launch that will give family members the chance to visit loved ones in care homes over Christmas.

The scheme will take place in several homes in Hampshire, Cornwall and Devon from today, November 16, with the hope it can be rolled out more widely.

But Susanna was unable to continue on Monday's show as she read a message from one mother, who said she hadn't been able to see her 26-year-old son who has autism and is not allowed to return home from his care home due to the coronavirus pandemic

"Suzanne on Facebook says, 'My son is severely autistic and lives in a care home," she started.

"'He's distraught he can't see me... or.. or come home to visit', sorry."

The GMB host then apologised as she became chocked up and stopping in her tracks before Dr Hilary Jones stepped in.

Susanna then spoke later about why she became so emotional: "I'm so sorry I was affected, but your stories coming in on the people you can't see in care homes..."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
