Susanna Reid self isolates after son begins displaying coronavirus symptoms

Susanna Reid is self isolating from coronavirus after her son started displaying symptoms.

The ITV host was absent from the Good Morning Britain panel today - it instead featured Piers Morgan and Charlotte Hawkins.

Susanna explained to the hosts via video link that she will be off for two weeks after her son developed a dry cough yesterday.

The mum-of-two confirmed that she wasn't showing any symptoms herself, and would have gone into work if it wasn’t for yesterday’s government advice.

As the programme started, Piers told viewers: "Rather an unusual line-up. Susanna is not with us, she is self-isolating for 14 days.

"I've heard of some ways of avoiding working with me but this is ridiculous!"

Susanna joked that she was in self isolation from Piers before explaining her position.

She said: "One of the boys has a cough, persistent cough, and that came on yesterday.

"Before the briefing yesterday, the person themselves had to be confined by themselves."

Last night, Susanna broke the news to her Twitter followers that she wouldn’t be on GMB.

She tweeted: "I am currently well but due to the new advice today I will be self-isolating for two weeks due to symptoms in my household.

"Stay well everyone."

When asked hoe she felt about being off work for two weeks, she said: "I love my job. It gives me so much pleasure and I'm going to miss it."

GMB airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
