Susanna Reid says Piers Morgan drove her to drink after seven-month booze break

Susanna Reid has revealed Piers Morgan "drove her to drink" after being teetotal for seven months.

The Good Morning Britain host gave up booze back in 2015 and managed to stay sober for the best part of a year.

She's now revealed she fell off the wagon after Piers joined GMB as her permanent co-host.

In an interview for this month's Prima magazine , she said: "Believe it or not, he drove me to drink again!" she joked.

"At 6.01am every morning, I would think, ‘I can’t do this.’

"He’s not afraid to say the most personal and provocative things, which I found infuriating.

"I tried ignoring it at first, before realising he was determined to prod and poke me until I was forced to have an opinion on something…

"He now says he’s drained out of me the BBC neutrality that I carried with me for the first 20 years of my career – he’s right. Actually, it’s turned out to be a good thing.”

Susanna gave up drink again last year as part of a healthy new diet, in which she's managed to lose more than one and a half stone.

She's still off the booze despite continuing to work with Piers.

The former newspaper editor raised eyebrows earlier this week when he confronted Susanna about her break up with Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish live on air.

After the news was splashed across the front page of one newspaper, Piers wasted no time in asking Susanna for details.

"Are you single again? You are aren't you?" he quizzed.

Susanna responded: “Yep. Let's not dwell. I'm fine, we're fine, we're very good friends. We were at the match on Saturday."

She explained: “These things happen right, we remain friends. Very good friends.”

Handling the situation like a pro, Susanna then proceed to tease Piers about Arsenal's loss at the weekend.
