Susanna Reid's message to Kate Garraway's husband as he fights coronavirus in hospital

Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid has sent a message to co-presenter Kate Garraway and her husband who is battling coronavirus in intensive care.

Speaking on the show on Monday morning, Susanna, 49, said she was "sending every ounce of strength" to Derek Draper as he fights the deadly bug.

A representative for Kate confirmed the news on Friday, revealing that the TV presenter hasn't been allowed to visit Derek to avoid catching the virus herself.

Susanna said: "We send him every ounce of strength as he recovers from coronavirus and love to her family.

"We thank all the NHS workers working so hard at the moment treating those who are suffering the virus."

Piers Morgan was also emotional and wished Mr Draper well as he acknowledged that more and more people are being hit by the virus.

He said: "It's coming home to everyone, everyone's been touched by this… this is something that affects all of us around the world. we've never had anything like this."

"It's agonising for everybody involved. We wish everybody the best, fingers crossed everything turns out OK," he said.

Derek is currently fighting COVID-19 in intensive care.

A representative for Kate said: "Kate's husband, Derek Draper, has been taken to hospital and is being treated in intensive care with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

"He was admitted on Monday and has since tested positive for the virus. Kate, hasn't been tested, however she has also been displaying mild symptoms, also since Monday, and as a result has been on strict isolation with her children at home."

Kate will not be allowed to return to work until at least seven days after her coronavirus symptoms first appeared.
