Susanna Reid reflects on queue row after Mel B remark on GMB

Susanna Reid reacted objectively and calmly to a cheeky comment from Spice Girl Mel B on Good Morning Britain as Scary Spice praised her for not "queue-jumping" and joining the hours-long queue to see Queen Elizabeth II lying in state at Westminster.

The pop star was appearing on the show to talk about the letter she received from the Queen after receiving an MBE for her work with Women's Aid. Mel said: "I mean, when I received this letter, a few months ago, I was looking at it, trying to make it sink in, and obviously since her passing, this is her writing. It is handwriting. She sent this to me personally. This is going to be framed. Of course it is. She really took time out to connect with people and this is such an honour. It makes me well up just thinking about it. I was in the last batch of people honoured by her."

Susanna went on to ask : "You have a good relationship with Camilla, the Queen Consort. She has made this a mission as well - to talk about domestic abuse and violence. That is quite a topic for her to take on, isn't it?"

Mel replied: "It is but it is a topic that needs to be addressed." Then the former Spice Girl took a moment to praise the GMB host for queuing up to pay her respects to the late Queen. She added: "Before I forget, Susanna.... you queued for seven hours. My gosh, I have so much respect for you. I did anyway but even more so now. What was that like?"

Susanna said it was "so kind to ask" and it was a "pilgrimage." Mel then laughed: "No queue jumping for you!" as she dialled in via video link. Susanna replied: "Well, some people had to work, of course. I was there with my mum who wanted to be there and her friend and it was lovely."

GMB frontwoman Susanna had previously addressed the queue on Monday's show. “It is an enormous privilege to have been able to have done that,” Susanna told co-host, Ben Shephard, on Monday morning as they watched pictures of the final people witnessing the Queen lying in state.
