Susanna Reid predicts new Good Morning Britain host will provoke 'strong reaction'

Susanna Reid is predicting 'fireworks' from Good Morning Britain's upcoming guest host Alastair Campbell.

It was announced last week that Tony Blair's former aide would be joining Susanna as a presenter for three days next week to mark Mental Health Awareness.

Talking about his surprising new role, Campbell said: "I am flattered to be asked and delighted that my stint will coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week as Good Morning Britain has always championed good mental health.

“I am also looking forward to getting stuck into the big political and social issues at such an important and difficult time for the country, as well as brushing up my knowledge on some of the subjects that will take me out of my comfort zone."

News of Alastair's stint on GMB had some viewers predicting he'd be ' the new Piers Morgan ' but shutting down any comparisons straight away, Alastair tweeted: "Checking the presenter chair… No, I am NOT the new @PiersMorgan.”

But his new presenting partner in crime Susanna, who has been hosting with Adil Ray, predicts he could well spark a similar reaction.

In a teaser for Alastair's arrival which aired during Wednesday's edition of GMB, Susanna said: "Joining me next week is a special guest presenter; someone to provoke strong reaction and lively debate.

"Someone to tackle the big issues and speak in a language that real people understand."

Alastair then appeared on screen to defiantly add: "Enough of answering questions, It's my turn to ask them."

His GMB role has split opinion to put it mildly, one took to Twitter to blast: "They’ve got Alastair Campbell on next week as a guest presenter! What are @GMB thinking? No better reason to turn off IMO."

In firm agreement, a second reacted: "Alastair Campbell?! That's me not watching #GMB next week," and a third tweeted: "Alastair Campbell next week ? Not in this house. @GMB desperate to stop the ratings slide."
