Susanna Reid accuses Boris Johnson of 'hiding in fridge' to avoid GMB grilling

Susanna Reid has mocked Boris Johnson for 'hiding in a fridge' to avoid a grilling on Good Morning Britain.

In the wake of the furore surrounding the Downing Street 'drinks party' that was alleged to have happened in May 2020, when employees were invited to 'take advantage of the lovely weather' and join together for after work drinks in the garden of number 10, the Prime Minister was a hot topic once again on the latest edition of the ITV daytime show on Wednesday.

Particularly when Susanna 's former co-host Piers Morgan was on show, GMB struggled to get many MPs or senior Government ministers to appear for interview, with Johnson also notable for his absence.

And as Susanna informed viewers and colleague Richard Madeley that it had been 1637 days, over two years, since t he PM was last on GMB, she recalled a bizarre moment when, Johnson looked like he was willing to answer a question before disappearing into a fridge in dairy he was visiting.

Teasing the clip from December 2019, Susanna told Richard: "Boris Johnson notoriously does not do interviews with Good Morning Britain," before crossing to Downing Street where GMB reporter Jonathan Swain was waiting.

Susanna explained that Jonathan had gone to the dairy to try and get some time with Johnson, as Jonathan explained: "It's still etched in my memory. I think we need to go back up to check that he's still not in there!

"We tried to get him onto the programme didn't we for months and months and months? And the only way we could do it was to try and 'doorstep' him.

"And he gave us assurances, even that morning, saying 'I'll be right out, I'll be right out,' as he loaded a cart up with milk and then he decided he still didn't want to come on GMB."

He added: "After all of that, he decided he'd had enough, he decided to go into a fridge and we didn't see him."

The clip then played out with the PM telling Jonathan: "I'll be with you in a second, I'll be with you in a second," before he disappeared into the industrial sized fridge.
