Susanna Reid invites old presenting partner Bill Turnbull to stand in for Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain

Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid joked that former BBC breakfast co-host Bill Turnbull should replace Piers Morgan on the show for the day.

Reid, 48, was interviewing Turnbull, 63, about his cancer battle when she invited him to take up the role.

Speaking during the show on Wednesday morning, Reid said: “We all miss you from breakfast television, what would you think of, on a day where Piers Morgan was perhaps incapacitated, why don’t you come and sit next to me? And present the programme?”

Turnbull responded: “I’d love to. Name the day. I wouldn’t do it full time, it is a little bit stressful, and stress isn’t good for cancer, but every once in a while, it would be great.

“What are you doing tomorrow?”

Morgan then joked that he was happy to take a back seat as “a group of Victoria’s Secret models” would be coming in to replace Reid in a few weeks.

Reid and Turnbull previously presented BBC Breakfast together from 2012 to 2014, when she moved to Good Morning Britain.

Turnbull left BBC Breakfast in 2015 after being at the helm for 15 years. He went on to present several shows, including CBBC sketch Class Dismissed and quiz show Think Tank.

He currently presents the weekend 10am to 1pm slot on Classic FM.

Turnbull was diagnosed with prostate cancer in November 2017 and discussed his thoughts on cannabis legalisation, saying that “the jury was still out” over legalisation but said “we need to have a conversation about it."
