Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid declared she felt "heartbroken" today as a distraught viewer begged the BBC not to axe free TV licenses for the over 75s.
The BBC announced plans to scrap free licences for pensioners, leaving the public outraged, especially for veterans and those who can't afford it.
Piers Morgan raged on the show as he remained determined to stop the plans from going ahead, allowing fans to call and message in to air their views.
They were inundated with messages from those fearing the impact it would have on elderly and ill relatives, from those viewers unable to leave the house to those suffering with diseases including dementia.
One emotional caller shared her disgust over the decision, claiming the elderly were being targeted.
She broke down in tears live on air as she spoke of her husband who, like many others, relied on television as their only form of comfort and entertainment.
The lady told the BBC to “get in the real world”, revealing how losing the lifeline of the free TV license would impact her husband.
She then begged Susanna for her help, encouraging her and Piers to continue their important protest.
Susanna was left emotional as she listened to the viewer, while Piers continued to demand the BBC reconsider.
She then composed herself before offering her thoughts to Josephine and all those who may suffer as a result of the axe.
Taking to Twitter , fans shared their own sympathy with the caller and others in her situation.
One fan said: “Well Josephine on Good Morning Britian #GMB has made me cry. That’s a reality.”
Another commented: “Listening to pensioners on @GMB reduced to tears because the @BBC are taking away their lifeline is utterly heartbreaking.”
