Piers Morgan defends late GMB arrival after comforting co-worker in car crash

Susanna Reid lashed out at Piers Morgan after her co-host leisurely wandered into the GMB studio.

The 49-year-old was not impressed when Piers missed out on reading his headlines and blasted crew for trying to hurry him along.

After the headlines were read out, GMB aired a shot of Piers walking into the studio behind Susanna before bowing to his 'audience' and taking a seat.

She said: "I was in the middle of the headlines-"

"No you weren't, you hadn't started the headlines," Piers interrupted.

Susanna pointed out: "I'm literally speaking the headlines there! You're like some sort of king or lord!"

"I had a series of people," Piers began.

Susanna mocked his arrival, saying: "'Halt! I am coming into the studio!' Like the Queen of Sheba."

Piers explained that he had been having his make-up done when he was chatting with a member of staff who had been in a car crash.

"I was giving her my support - something that hasn't crossed your mind - and I was showing a bit of warmth and empathy towards a co-worker," he said. "And then of course I get a procession of people smashing the door down-"

"Saying, 'Would you like to do your job?'" Susanna interjected.

Piers blasted the crew for acting as though it were "some sort of Secret Service operation" as crew shouted stats in his ear as Laura Tobin filmed him.

Susanna retorted: "We'd just quite like you to be here at the beginning of the programme! If that's alright?!"

Piers questioned: "Did I miss anything?"

"Yes, you missed your headlines!" Susanna replied incredulously.

"No, I never normally read that bit - you do," Piers responded.

The pair continued to bicker as Susanna demanded to see the tape from the beginning of the programme.

Piers fumed: "This is utterly confusing for viewers! None of whom share your blood lust to have me read the right cue at the right moment!"
