Susanna Reid cries as heartbroken parents remember son Jimi who died saving woman

Susanna Reid cried on Good Morning Britain today as she spoke to the heartbroken family of a hero who died saving a woman in the River Thames.

Susanna and her co-host Adil Ray spoke to the parents of Folajimi Olubunmi-Adewole, known as Jimi, who died on Friday night after saving a woman who had ended up in the River Thames.

His parents looked incredibly sad as his mum kept repeating: "Jimi has a good heart".

Susanna began to cry, but then tried to compose herself as she said: "My heart is absolutely broken for you.

"It's broken for you as parents."

Jimi's best friend Bernard Kosia was with Jimi, 20 when he went into the river on his rescue mission.

Bernard was in the GMB studio and Susanna got upset again as she turned to him.

Clearly emotional Susanna said: "I find it hard, but it must be impossible for you."

Bernard explained how Jimi had gone into the river despite it being pitch black after they heard the woman scream she was dying.

Bernard said: "Jimi was adamant, for some reason, that he didn't care (about himself). He didn't think twice as to what was going to happen.

"I just remember him saying 'Bernard, I have to save her, I'm going to save her'."

He described his friend as a "neighbourhood hero".

He said: "To risk your life in such a way, you don't see that every day."

The woman was saved but Jimi sadly died during the rescue. There is now a campaign for him to be awarded the St George's Cross.

Speaking about the campaign Susanna said: "He was full of life and he was a hero, we all support the campaign for Jimi to be awarded a St George's cross."

And viewers watching at home were also left incredibly moved by the interview.

Jade said: "My heart just broke watching Jimi’s parents on #GMB what a brave young man."

Jules said: "In absolute floods of tears #GMB #JimiTheHero heartbreaking What an amazing young man."

Nicola said: "Jimis friend and parents on GMB is actually breaking my heart, what an amazing boy and hero."

And Sue Quincey said: "This is one of the most heartbreaking interviews I have ever seen. Crying my eyes out. My heart absolutely breaks for Jimi’s parents and Bernard. #GMB #RememberingJimi @GMB RIP Jimi a true hero."

*GMB continues at 6am on ITV tomorrow
