Susanna Reid clashes with Dominic Raab in heated GMB debate

Susanna Reid clashed with Dominic Raab this morning during a debate into the Sarah Everard vigil at Clapham Common on Saturday night.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab told Good Morning Britain that he agreed it was a "very distressing and harrowing case" and it was understandable the women were concerned.

Mr Raab said the government were committed to making the streets safer for women but that there was still a need to stop people mixing because of coronavirus.

Susanna pointed to the dilemma the police faced saying that they thought "what on earth are we supposed to do" with the coronavirus legislation in place.

Susanna asked Mr Raab: "Should the police have upheld legislation or should they have not on Saturday?"

Mr Raab said that it was right that government had passed the legislation but that it was up to the police to decide how they applied the law and that the police's operational independence should be respected.

Susanna tried to interject and Mr Raab snapped at her and said: "You keep interrupting again.

"We pass the law and the the operational aspect is for the police, the Met has instigated a review, but I agree with your premise that they are in a very difficult position."

Susanna hit back and said: "I don't want to interrupt you again, but it's not good enough to just say to them you decide how to police it.

"Did you want them to arrest people who didn't leave that gathering?"

Mr Raab argued that there had always been the separation between police and politicians and that there had "always been that line between legislation and how it is enforced."

And viewers were quick to comment on the row between the pair on social media.

Ash said: "Glad to see some of @ piersmorgan tactics have been passed onto @ susannareid100 - They are very much needed when interviewing Govt ministers to say the least."

And Christopher said: ""Susanna you're interrupting me" that's because it's an interview Dominic, not a party political broadcast."
