Susanna Reid chased down knife-wielding thief who stole her bag: ‘I was absolutely furious’

Susanna Reid has opened up about the moment she was “propelled” to chase down a man armed with a knife after he mugged her in London.

Reid, 47, said she was left “incandescent” after the thief slashed her coat to get to her bag before running over a bridge with her belongings.

Reid recalled the incident on Good Morning Britain during a discussion on the “walk-on by culture” when it comes to violence.

She said: “I got mugged once by a guy with a knife and my instinct was to run after him. It’s not rational and obviously that was dangerous.

Furious: Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain (Good Morning Britain/ ITV )

“He slashed my bag off me and cut through my coat. I was incandescent. He ran up over a bridge – I followed him. I was absolutely furious and he was shaking out my bag and then he ran off. I had cash, he took that, but I got my bag and everything else back.”

Morgan was left in shock by the revelation and asked if she feared she would get attacked. Reid replied: “I was protected by my adrenalin I think. You are putting yourself at risk. It was red mist. I was acting on instinct. I was propelled to do it.”

Reid said she was invited to an identity parade but said she had no clue what the suspect looked like. She said she was fearful for a while afterwards and “aware of what was going on around me”.

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6
