Susanna Reid calls out trolls after facing nasty weight jibes

Susanna Reid’s fans leapt to her defence after she revealed trolls have targeted her with cruel jibes about her recent weightloss.

Reid has shed two stone since she quit alcohol and cut out snacks over two months ago in a bid to lower her BMI.

But Reid revealed some have taken aim at her new look, claiming it has aged her, while others said she will pile the pounds back on.

Reid tweeted a screengrab of comments left by trolls on a website, including one which read: “She’ll put it back pretty soon #alwaysbeenbig.”

Another read: “Lost too much weight now, looking very drawn and older.”

Fans were quick to shut down the nasty remarks, hailing Reid a “stunner”.

One tweeted: “I can’t believe what famous females have to put up with...makes me sick.”

Another posted: “Unfortunately it's pure and simple jealousy of an smart, successful and strong woman.”

Fellow broadcaster, and BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty, also told Reid to ignore the vitriol and to “keep being fabulous”.

She tweeted: “To those who think hating and criticising is an acceptable way to spend your time: YOU ARE AN IDIOT. STOP BEING A WASTE OF SPACE. TRY TO BE BETTER.

“Keep being fabulous @susannareid100.”

Reid, who is dating Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish, recently celebrated 100 days sober – but admitted she might be tempted by a vodka shot, or two, over the festive period.

“It is more than 100 days since I last touched alcohol and I feel clearer, sharper, and more energetic than ever,” she told the Daily Express.

“It’s certainly helped me – not least because I have get up so early and it doesn’t help when you feel as if you are in a constant state of jet lag.”

Despite the health benefits, Reid recently revealed she was struggling with being tee-total, telling Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan she is “absolutely desperate” for a tipple.

Recalling a lunch date she said: “I was desperate for a drink. Absolutely desperate. The thing about fizzy water is it doesn’t knock the edge off things.”
