Susanna Reid apologised to Piers Morgan for 'chilly' Good Morning Britain goodbye

Susanna Reid has been in touch with Piers Morgan to apologise for the 'chilly' goodbye she gave him after he quit Good Morning Britain.

Piers' GMB co-host for five years was in the studio to see him storm off the show on Tuesday, March 9 following a clash with Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle, before it was announced that he'd walked way from the show hours later.

Susanna addressed Piers' departure live GMB the following morning when she said: "A number of people will of course know the news and many of you will not and will be surprised that Piers Morgan is not here this morning.

"Now, Piers and I have disagreed on many things and that dynamic was one of the things that viewers liked about the programme."

"He is without a doubt an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster. He has many critics and he has many fans."

Susanna added: "He has been my presenting partner Monday to Wednesday for more than five years, and during Brexit and the pandemic and other issues, he has been a voice for many of you and a voice that many of you have railed against.

"It is certainly going to be very different but the show must go on."

And in an interview with the Mail on Sunday, Piers revealed his thoughts on Susanna's 'chilly' statement on his exit, saying: "Jeez, even my real ex-wife talks more fondly about me than that (and, in fact, did so overnight in a very supportive message).

"I got an instant flurry of new texts from bemused friends asking if we'd fallen out."

After explaining that he believed Susanna's reaction stemmed from her feeling isolated and fearing abuse from trolls, he shared that she had been in touch, saying: "She apologised for the tone of her chilly goodbye, which was for all the reasons I suspected, and I apologised for leaving her in the lurch so suddenly."

He added that normally tee-total Susanna had agreed that they need to go on a boozy lunch once Covid restrictions ease.
