Susan Wokoma joins cast of Teenage Dick at the Donmar Warehouse

Susan Wokoma will join the cast of Teenage Dick, the Donmar Warehouse has announced.

She takes on the role of Elizabeth York alongside Daniel Monks in Mike Lew’s darkly comic take on Shakespeare’s Richard III. This follows a highly praised turn as Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Open Air Theatre.

New artistic director Michael Longhurst directs the UK premiere of the play, which premiered off-Broadway in 2018. Set in a high school, a teenage boy with hemiplegia plots a rise to power after years of bullying and faces the question of whether it is better to be loved or feared.

This will be the second production Longhurst directs himself during his first season as the Donmar's artistic director.

The theatre has also announced that Lyndsey Turner’s production of Far Away by Caryl Churchill will partner with the London College of Fashion costume design course to create hats for one of the play's most famous scenes.

Teenage Dick runs from December 6-February 1, with Far Away running from February 6-March 21.

Tickets for both go on general sale on September 25, donmarwarehouse.com
