May 21--The votes are in -- and two former "Survivor" contestants with Chicago ties have joined the cast for the upcoming season of "Survivor: Second Chance."
Spencer Bledsoe, who studied economics at the University of Chicago, and attorney Andrew Savage, who lived in Chicago when he was on "Survivor: Pearl Islands," were voted to join the cast of Season 31. Savage, 51, now lists San Jose, Ca., as his hometown.
The "Second Chance" season is made up of contestants who didn't win their seasons, dating back to Season 1. Fans cast more than 10 million votes for their favorite contestants, and the winners were revealed Wednesday night during a live reunion for "Survivor: Worlds Apart," which Texan Mike Holloway won.
Bledsoe, 22, finished in fourth place "Survivor: Cagayan," which aired last year. Savage finished in 10th place in the seventh season. He told "Survivor" host Jeff Probst he has been waiting 12 years for a second chance.
Contestants who won the vote immediately boarded a bus to start their journey to Cambodia, where filming will take place for 39 days.
Former Chicago Bear Brad Culpepper and former Northwestern University professor Max Dawson, who taught a class about "Survivor," were among the 12 hopefuls who not earn enough votes.
