Survey: What do you think of the new Plan B measures?

Boris Johnson has announced that Plan B measures will be brought in to help curb the spread of the new Omicron variant.

The Prime Minister made the announcement at a Downing Street press conference on Wednesday night.

Under the new restrictions people will be asked to work from home again from Monday.

Certain venues will also only be allowed to welcome customers that can show an NHS Covid pass from next week.

The NHS Covid Pass will be mandatory for entry into nightclubs, and venues where large crowds gather.

That includes unseated indoor venues with more than 500 people, unseated outdoor venues with more than 4,000 people and any venue with more than 10,000 people, he said.

From Friday the legal requirement to wear a face mask will extend to most public indoor venues, including theatres and cinemas.

Mr Johnson said Plan B restrictions are needed to slow the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, which scientists are still learning about.

"We do not yet know Omicron’s severity, its exact rate of transmission, nor indeed the full effectiveness of our vaccines against it," Mr Johnson said.

"But since I last spoke to you, it’s become increasingly clear that Omicron is growing much faster than the previous Delta variant."

He said that 568 cases have been confirmed through genomic sequencing across every region of the UK - but the true number is "certain to be much higher".
