Survey: Tell us what you think about the changes to covid testing rules

People who test positive for Coronavirus using a lateral flow device will no longer need to get a follow up PCR test if they do not have symptoms.

The change - designed to free up laboratory capacity - will come into effect in England on January 11.

Changes to the travel regime for England have also been approved, with the requirement for pre-departure tests scrapped from 4am on Friday.

The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, also said the requirement to self-isolate on arrival until receipt of a negative PCR test on arrival was being scrapped, returning instead to the system in place in October last year, where travellers need to take a lateral flow test no later than the end of day two after arriving in England, with a PCR if they are positive.

The changes come as cases continue to surge in the Liverpool City Region.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, the area had 37,044 positive Covid tests in the seven days ending December 31 - that's 17,047 more positive tests than the previous seven days - a rise of around 85%.

While numbers continue to cause concern across the country, Mr Johnson has said he plans to stick with ‘Plan B’ measures until at least January 26, when they will be reviewed.

As the picture continues to change, we want to know what you think.
