There are 71 companies with the trade name Reiwa, the name for the new era, according to a survey by Tokyo-based research firm Teikoku Databank, Ltd.
The survey covered the period from April 1, when the new era name was announced, to Oct. 20. Of the 71 companies, 44 are newly established, while 27 changed their trade name to Reiwa.
A total of 361 companies include the word Reiwa as part of their trade name. Of them, the most common names were Reiwa Kensetsu (construction firms), Reiwa Fudosan (real-estate firms) and Reiwa Shoji (trading firms) at 11 each, followed by Reiwa Kogyo at 10 and Reiwa Sangyo at nine.
By location, Tokyo has the largest share of the 432 companies -- the 71 companies with the trade name Reiwa plus the 361 companies with Reiwa as part of the name -- at 86, followed by Osaka Prefecture and Fukuoka Prefecture at 32 each. Apparently, none are located in Niigata and Wakayama prefectures.
