Survey results reveal Newcastle United fans' stark Premier League expectations

A 15th place finish has been predicted by the majority of Newcastle United fans who took part in Chronicle Live's Premier League prediction survey that invited supporters to forecast key outcomes for the 2021/22 season.

In excess of 3,000 individual responses were collected, and standout observations were that just 15% of fans think Steve Bruce's side will achieve the coveted top-half finish he has spoken about pushing for. The majority of fans feel 15th position is most likely, with a narrow majority (13%) selecting that finish in our predictor.

Elsewhere, a relatively low 12% think the team will finish the 2021/22 campaign in one of the three relegation spots, with a minority of just 110 fans (3%) predicting that they will actually end the season rock bottom.

Predictably Callum Wilson is forecast to finish as the team's top scorer, 93% picked him. Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton were second and third choices but Joe Willock didn't feature as the survey went out prior to his arrival from Arsenal on a permanent deal.

Jacob Murphy was selected by 37% of supporters to be Newcastle's surprise star, closely followed by Ryan Fraser (27%), Freddie Woodman (24%), Jamal Lewis (11%) and Emil Krafth (2%).

In terms of young players, Elliot Anderson was picked to be the club's best young player (41%), followed by Matty Longstaff (29%), Joe White (14%), Tom Allen (10%), Jack Young (4%) and Kell Watts (3%), who was included in the options before agreeing his season long loan move to Wigan.
