Survey finds out why men eat fewer vegetables than women

Men don’t eat as many vegetables as women because they feel they don’t fill them up, according to a new survey. Nearly half of men questioned about why they don’t eat enough vegetables said it was because vegetables aren’t filling enough.

The survey was commissioned by SmarterNaturally. The Health Survey for England has found consistently since 1994 that women eat more fruit and vegetable portions each day. In the SmarterNaturally survey, men also said they would rather focused on “the good stuff” like protein, that real mean at meat rather than vegetables, that they don't like being nagged to eat more vegetables, that they don’t like the taste/texture of vegetables and had bad childhood experiences that put them off eating vegetables.

A spokesperson for SmarterNaturally said: “Again and again, scientific research into our health is showing that our diet plays a huge role in our health, and that eating lots of fruits and vegetables in our diet is critically important – particularly as we get older. We’ve known for decades that men tend to eat less veg than women, but now that we know why we can try to help create vegetable-based foods that are more appealing to men – for example, ones that are more filling and packed full of protein."

SmarterNaturally launched ‘Super-Soup’ last year - a broccoli soup high in protein and glucoraphanin.
