BEIJING -- Over 40 police vehicles were deployed around Tiananmen Square in Beijing on Friday, as Chinese authorities stood on high alert against pro-democracy demonstrations on the 32nd anniversary of the deadly 1989 crackdown on student-led protests in the infamous square.

According to sources, Pu Zhiqiang, a prominent human rights activist in Beijing, was moved by authorities to the western province of Gansu on Thursday, ahead of the anniversary.
