Surrey make progress on hotel at The Oval as they move closer to acquiring land

Surrey are close to acquiring land adjacent at the southern end of the Kia Oval that will allow them to build a hotel and develop club offices and player accommodation.

As part of the changes, the Ovalhouse Theatre — where the 95-bedroom hotel will be situated — is moving to Brixton.

Club offices and player accommodation will be in the Grade II-listed White House, which will be refurbished by the club.

Planning permission was granted in January and Surrey chief executive Richard Gould told Standard Sport: “We have planning permission, we are just waiting to get the contracts.”

Much is changing at the ground, with the 18-month redevelopment of Lock-Laker Stand, which will increase capacity to more than 28,000, due to begin in October.
