Surrey hotel evacuated after body and chemicals discovered

A Surrey hotel evacuated its staff and guests after chemicals were discovered in a room where a man's body was found.

SurreyLive reported police were called to the Premier Inn on Staines Road in Sunbury at around 3.25pm on Thursday (October 28) after a man was found dead.

Chemicals were discovered by emergency services and the hotel evacuated.

Police later said they did not not believe there was any risk posed to the public, and added: "We were called to the Premier Inn on Staines Road in Sunbury at around 3.25pm this afternoon following reports of a man found deceased in a hotel room.

"Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and a cordon was put in place.

"Chemicals were found and the hotel was evacuated as a precaution. We are currently working with other agencies to identify the substance. The man’s next of kin have been informed."

Police said the man's death was being treated as unexplained but that they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the investigation.

Guests were reportedly allowed back into the building at around 8pm.
