Surrey bid to end T20 Glamorgan hoodoo

Surrey face bogey-team Glamorgan at the Kia Oval tonight still looking for their first Vitality Blast win of the season.

Surrey lost their opening two games and, remarkably, have never beaten Glamorgan at home in T20, losing six of seven matches with one no-result.

The Oval is set to be full, as it was on Tuesday for the visit of Middlesex, as the Blast rides the World Cup wave. Surrey will be without Ben Foakes (side strain) again and have brought Freddie van den Bergh into the squad.

Ollie Pope, on terrific form against Middlesex after returning from three months out with injury, will again take the gloves in Foakes’s absence. “It’s been a long old summer,” said Pope.

“The last three months haven’t been the easiest but I’ve got through it and kept my head switched on. It was surreal being out there again.

“We have spoken about the way we start the competition before. Hopefully tonight we can play our best cricket and get the win on the board.”

Surrey are likely to name an unchanged team, including World Cup winners Liam Plunkett and Tom Curran.

Glamorgan are also winless, having lost to Somerset then seen their game against Gloucestershire washed out. They welcome star Pakistan batsman Fakhar Zaman to their squad.
