Surrey police siege: Officers locked in stand-off with gunman after drugs raid in Smallfield

Police are locked in a stand-off with a man armed with a gun in Surrey after a drugs raid.

Officers had launched the pre-planned operation on a home in Smallfield, near Gatwick Airport, at 6am on Thursday morning.

“Upon entry to the property a person was seen to be in possession of a suspected firearm,” a spokesperson for Surrey Police said.

A resident told the Get Surrey website the area had been closed down by a heavy police presence and people were unable leave their homes in the Carey's Wood Area, adding: "There’s a guy in his house with a firearm refusing to get out of his house.

"Armed police are surrounding his house and the helicopter has been flying over since 6.30am."

Police confirmed a helicopter is in attendance and a security cordon has been put in place on local roads.

A spokesperson said no hostages were being held and the incident was not terror-related.
