Hollywood star Johnny Depp has put his French estate near St Tropez on the market for £16.5m.
Whoever buys the 37-acre estate in Le Plan-de-la-Tour will not only get more than a dozen buildings, all restored and decorated according to the actor’s bohemian taste, but also the property’s furniture including artworks, books and a raft of Depp’s personal belongings.
Bought by Depp in 2001, it’s the place where the Pirates of the Caribbean star escaped the Hollywood hustle and lived for much of the following decade with his then partner, French actor and singer Vanessa Paradis, and their children Lily-Rose and Jack.
The estate is a private Provençal village or hameau of stone-built houses dating back to 1812 with a main house and several guest residences. Rather than turn the estate into a ritzy celebrity showplace, Depp spent years having the buildings restored, stamping them with his personal touch.
The result includes quirky features like a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed wine-tasting cave, a converted village church where guests can sleep, and an authentic Provençal village restaurant and bar where they can socialise.
Other amenities include a hunter’s cabin; a painter’s studio where Depp created many of his artworks; a large swimming pool with its own beach bar; landscaped gardens; and an elaborate skate park.
Selling off the entire estate, together with much of its contents, is Depp’s way of closing that chapter of his life and moving on, according to Alexander Kraft, head of the sales agent Sotheby’s International Realty France.
