Surprised shoppers mock M&S's suggestive aubergine-shaped Easter egg

M&S is already in the Easter spirit has been teasing fans on its upcoming seasonal launches for some weeks.

However, one of its new creations has come as a surprise to shoppers.

The high street favourite is selling a suggestive-looking aubergine-shaped Easter egg, as part of its vegan chocolate offerings.

M&S unveiled its new treat via its Instagram page with a caption reading: "Stop scrolling: our ‘Egg-Plant Kitchen’ vegan Easter egg is here to brighten up your January in all its aubergine-shaped glory. You can thank us later. Pick it up in store now!"

Although the aubergine is a popular and versatile vegetable, in the emoji world it has an x-rated meaning.

Shoppers were quick to point this out, commenting on the Instagram post.

One person wrote: "I can see that being a Valentine gift for the [aubergine emoji] fans."

Another said: "Jesus isn’t the only thing that rose again at Easter!"

"It's not April Fools yet M&S! Do you know what the aubergine emoji is used for? Crying," another shopper commented.

And one follower joked: "I wonder if Ann Summers will be selling them as well!"

This year Easter falls on Sunday, April 4.
