In a rare and complex surgery, doctors removed a 22lb cyst the size of a watermelon from a woman's ovary.
Doctor scans revealed the huge size of the cysts which needed to be removed straight away.
61-year-old Manjeet Kaur complained about breathing issues and stomach pains before doctors gave her scan.
The risky two-hour surgery, which took place at Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), was a success.
The hospital’s director principal, Dr Kulbir Kaur, said: “It is indeed a great moment for us in these testing times.
“We’re committed to doing well for the betterment of our people.”
Manjeet from Kapurthala in the state of Punjab, northern India, first went for medical help at her local hospital, but she moved to PIMS when she got worse.
As she grew weaker it became clear to doctors they needed to remove the watermelon-sized growth immediately.
Dr Harwinder Kaur Cheema, who led the surgery, said: “The cyst could have turned into cancer had it not been removed at the earliest and we are delighted we could remove it.”
She is said to be recovering well post-surgery, and is set to be discharged next week.
