Surge testing to take place in Battersea and Putney in Wandsworth

Surge testing is to be deployed in two new postcodes in south London, the Government has announced.

The extra testing, after cases of the South African variant of coronavirus were identified, is to take place in the SW11 and SW15 postcodes.

The postcodes cover Battersea and Putney in Wandsworth.

Additional testing and genomic sequencing is being deployed within the postcodes, the Department of Health and Social Care said.

Enhanced contact tracing will be used for individuals testing positive with a variant of concern.

Residents of the targeted areas are being strongly encouraged to take a Covid-19 test when offered, whether they are showing symptoms or not.
