Surge in KWI's funds under management

The assets under management (AUM) of King Wai Asset Management (KWI) rose 167% year-on-year or around 2.7 times, from 5.93 billion baht to 15.81 billion baht in 2021.

KWI currently provides mutual funds, private funds and, most recently, provident fund business, which commenced in November 2021.

The funds under management consist of eight foreign investment funds (FIFs), three Thai equity funds, three tax-deductible funds, one money market fund and one mutual fund for provident fund, which was launched in late November 2021.

The company views that the investment trend for mutual funds will grow alongside technology, fintech, green energy and environment social and governance (ESG).

Antonio Hang Tat Chan, chairman and chief executive of KWI, said KWI aims to inspire its clients with professional alternative insights, empower them with functional tools, offer customers access to new investment trends while controlling risks.

In 2021, KWI mutual funds continued to deliver outstanding performance. The company had 5 out of its 8 FIFs ranked in the first quartile of Morningstar's categories as of Dec 30.

KWI gained approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission to expand its business into provident funds.

KWI currently offers the Master Pooled Fund platform and established the KWI Master Pooled Registered Provident Fund (KWI Master Pooled Fund) which is mainly investing through various types of mutual funds such as fixed income funds, Thai equity funds, FIFs and alternative funds.

Sumetha Lewchalermwong, managing director and chief investment officer, said the global economy is rapidly recovering from the pandemic. Along with the recovery, the world is also facing many major changes.

He said there are fast-growing trends in several industries such as consumer, tourism, technology, including the metaverse, artificial intelligence, robotics, non-fungible tokens, fintech and healthtech.

Another major area to focus on is ESG and sustainable investing, such as electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy, smart mobility and smart solutions.

These growing industries and trends give investors the opportunity to reap gains from long-term investment, he said.
