Surfing called off at Margaret River as finals loom

The Margaret River Pro titles will be decided on Sunday after a lay day was called because of the surf conditions.

Saturday's late-afternoon call means a monster day of competition, with the first heats from 6.45am local time.

The initial men's and women's 40-minute heats will overlap, before the semi-finals and finals for the two competitions are run separately.

When the competition resumes south of Perth, half the men's quarter-finalists are yet to be decided.

Australian stars Ethan Ewing and Jack Robinson will be in the remaining four round-of-16 heats.

The women have reached their quarter-finals and each of those four heats will feature a local.

Tyler Wright, Molly Picklum, India Robinson and Sally Fitzgibbons are the Australians still in contention.

Margaret River is the last championship tour event before the mid-season cut and Fitzgibbons must win the title to avoid relegation.
