Surfers wait for epic Margaret River waves

Semi-finalist Bronte Macaulay is among surfers waiting out at lay day at the Margaret River Pro. (AAP)

Organisers have postponed the business end of the surfing's Margaret River Pro due to small waves but expect to finish the event in "epic" conditions.

Olympic medallist Owen Wright is among eight Australian men who must wait at least another day for their round-of-32 clashes at the World Surf League event in WA.

Australians Bronte Macaulay and Isabella Nichols likewise must bide their time before going head to head in the women's semi-finals to decide who faces the winner between Americans Cortney Conogue and Gabriela Bryan for the title

"We've got small surf on offer here today, so we're calling the competition off for today," said Jessi Miley-Dyer, WSL head of competition.

"We've got promising swell and favourable winds coming in the next few days and will be looking at finishing the event in epic conditions."
