A man is in critical condition following a shark attack in Sydney’s Manly Beach. The incident comes after an 11-year-old boy was attacked on Monday morning, and another was mauled by a shark on Sunday afternoon.
Per The Daily Telegraph, the man was believed to be surfing when the attack occurred. The surfer was then dragged unconscious from the water at about 6.20pm, with emergency services attending to the scene.
A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance told 9News that the surfer is in “critical condition”.
Earlier today, an 11-year-old boy was attacked while surfing in Sydney’s Dee Why Beach. Thankfully, the surfer managed to escape the attack without any injury. However, his surfboard was bitten several times, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The type of shark involved in Monday morning’s incident is unknown, but a piece of the boy’s surfboard has been sent to NSW Fisheries to help with identification.
According to the Manly Observer, witnesses claimed to have seen a bull shark that was “possibly four to five feet long”. However, this is not confirmed.
On Sunday, a 13-year-old boy was mauled by a shark near Vaucluse’s Shark Beach at Nielsen Park. The incident reportedly happened near a popular jump rock, and police claim the teen was attacked as soon as he entered the water at about 4.20pm.
The teen is currently in critical condition. Police and paramedics have since praised the action of his friends, with NSW Police Superintendent Joseph McNulty telling reporters, “one of his mates jumped in and helped retrieve him from the water, and that’s some heroic actions just in itself”.
Monday afternoon’s incident is the third shark attack to happen in the last two days.
