A surfer has died after being pulled from the water in Cornwall, police have confirmed.
The tragedy unfolded on Friday afternoon, when emergency crews were called to the beach near Bude.
Despite desperate efforts to save the man, who was in his 40s, he later died.
Widemouth Bay and Black Rock beaches near Bude were closed by RNLI lifeguards after a man in difficulty was spotted in the water at around 4.20pm, Cornwall Live reports .
RNLI crews pulled the surfer, in his 40s, from the water and gave him CPR, but he was confirmed dead 'a short time later', according to police.
His death is not being treated as suspicious.
A police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 4.30pm on Friday 31 May to Widemouth Bay, Bude, following reports of concern for the welfare of a man in the water.
"The man, in his 40s, was treated by ambulance at the scene but sadly confirmed deceased a short time later.
"His next of kin have been informed.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
