Surfer dies after being pulled from sea off Isle of Lewis

A man has died after getting into difficulty off the Isle of Lewis.

Emergency services pulled the man from the sea, near Barvas just before midday on Wednesday.

He was flown to hospital in Stornoway but was later pronounced dead.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "About 11.45am today, Wednesday November 13, 2019, emergency services were informed about a surfer being pulled from the sea at Barvas, Isle of Lewis.

"Officers attended along with other emergency services and the man was flown to Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway where he was later pronounced dead.

"Inquiries are ongoing into the circumstances and the Procurator Fiscal has been informed."
