MUMBAI: In an order allowing Indrani Mukerjea to furnish a surety from Thane even as the CBI objected that "local sureties," were part of her bail conditions, a special trial court relied on a high court order which had allowed such relaxation in another case pointing to the larger interest and on the grounds that Thane City, Kalyan and Navi Mumbai are part of the same Thane District and adjoining Mumbai.
Indrani had time and again expressed difficulties in furnishing sureties having spent more than six years in jail. While the court had passed the order on Thursday, the detailed order was made available on Saturday.
Last month, her lawyer had submitted that a doctor is going to stand surety for Indrani and the paper work will take about three weeks. "Applicant is permitted to furnish surety of Thane District. Sessions Registry to verify surety, taking into consideration time given to furnish it..," special judge said. The matter has been adjourned to August 1.
Arrested in 2015 for murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, Mukerjea was granted bail by Supreme Court in May. She was directed to be released on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with one or more local solvent sureties. Mukerjea has been granted extension to furnish surety a couple of times.
