Cricketer Suresh Raina and his wife Priyanka Raina spent time with children undergoing treatment at the Advanced Paediatrics Centre (APC), Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on Saturday.

The meeting was organised by Nanhi Jaan, a non governmental organisation (NGO) which is working for the welfare for children at PGIMER.

Priayanka on the occasion said, “I wanted to meet children and I had heard about the initiative taken by Nanhi Jaan, wherein they are raising awareness among people and are encouraging them to spend time with children.”

She added, “We are working on a n NGO which will work with mentally retarded children and pregnant women. The foundation will be launched by me and Suresh on our daughter- Gracia’s birthday who is turning 1 on May 15.”

Priyanka distributed toys to children and interacted with them and their parents.

Talking about the functions of the NGO, Karanvir Sibia, one of the founder members of Nanhi Jaan said, “For the last seven years, we have been working for the children. The main focus of the organisation is towards the health care and education. We are providing services in three government hospitals of the city.”

The volunteers take care of 30 to 40 kids and spend time in the play area of the APC which functions from 2pm to 5pm.

“I am here from the last one month and I daily spend two hours at the play area. That is the best time of the day,” said Vikas, a 11-year-old boy. He is suffering from abdominal infection and is scheduled to undergo a surgery this week.
