'Surely that means' - Liverpool fans have transfer theory as Xherdan Shaqiri deal agreed

Liverpool have agreed a deal worth £9.5million to sell Xherdan Shaqiri to Lyon.

The French side had initially offered £4m for the services of the Switzerland international but the Reds have now managed to negotiate a higher fee.

Shaqiri has now been granted permission to undergo a medical with Lyon, having already agreed personal terms with the club.

It brings to an end his three-year stay at Liverpool after arriving at Anfield in the summer of 2018 from Stoke City.

Shaqiri has started only 10 games for the Reds in the past two seasons, and made a total of 63 appearances while scoring eight goals and contributing nine assists.

The ECHO understands that further first-team opportunities will be given to Harvey Elliott on the back of this transfer deal, meanwhile 16-year-old Kaide Gordon is set be to be fast-tracked to the senior squad.

Though a direct replacement for Shaqiri is in doubt, this hasn't stopped Liverpool supporters from dreaming that this will be the case.

Reds fans on social media were sad to hear that the 29-year-old is on his way out of Anfield after producing some memorable moments, but remain optimistic that a new signing could be a possibility.

Here are some of the reactions provided by Liverpool fans:

@_LFCJOE: "NEW SIGNING INCOMINGGGGGGGG."

@ContRADIct_11: "Surely that means a new signing, Doku?"

@rajsinghchohan: "Doku packing his suitcase for Merseyside as we speak."

@ahmedIfc: "WE CAN SIGN SOMEONE NOW LETS GOOOOOOOO."

@wearewinnin: "That's a fair deal considering the fact that Lyon were only offering €6m at the start. A non-homegrown spot has been cleared. Time for us to make some incoming."

@MattTaphouse: "TIME TO SIGN MBAPPEEEEE."
