'Surely a point deduction' - These fans are not impressed by Spurs' new stadium opening ceremony

Tottenham Hotspur opened their new stadium against Crystal Palace this evening (April 3) in the Premier League.

The stadium had held two test events previously but this game was the official opening with a league game.

Ahead of the game Tottenham held an opening ceremony that began around 15 minutes before kick off.

The ceremony involved people from the local community including local children singing in a choir on the pitch.

As part of the ceremony the players from both sides were brought out early onto the pitch as an opera singer joined them for a rendition of 'The Spurs Go Marching On'.

Fans in the stadium appeared to enjoy proceedings but many football fans on twitter were less than impressed by what they saw.

A few described the proceedings as 'cringeworthy' and some even described it as 'American' comparing it to show at events like the Super Bowl.

Every word of Daniel Levy's message to fans about Spurs' new stadium and his 'darkest hour'

One person on twitter even jokingly suggested that 'surely a point deduction' would follow for Spurs as a result of the ceremony.

Some of the best reactions from other fans are below.
