Suranne, who plays the lead character the 'first modern lesbian' Anne Lister, throws her hands in the air in elation as Sophie pouts in the forefront with a glass of bubbly with a straw in it.

And she added: "Love you @sophiesophierundle."

In another post Suranne, who shot to fame as mouthy machinist Karen McDonald in Coronation Street in 2000, looked fresh-faced and makeup-free as she wore a navy robe emblazoned with her character name.

She told how hard they had worked on completing the drama through the pandemic.

Suranne, who is also celebrating her submarine drama Vigil becoming the UK's most watched new drama launch in three years, said: "We only bloody wrapped on the 2nd season!!! The crew worked so hard.

"We juggled episodes and directors, Covid, babies, the passing of my father and a world that was masked and in chaos for most of our shoot.

"We had a summer off when we needed to be with our family and friends then we got through this last five weeks together and faced a few more challenges on the way.

"Thank you to everyone who worked on this show. We can’t wait for you to see it next year."

In January Suranne went through heartbreak when she lost her father Chris to Covid-19.

Sharing a snap of her father and her late mother Jenny, who died in 2016, on a Beach in Cornwall she opened up about the tragedy.

"Happy birthday mum forever on a beach in Cornwall with dad," she penned on her Instagram in May.

"Mum passed away four and a half years ago and my father sadly passed away this January after fighting Covid and the affect it had on his body.

"We are still coming to terms with it all but I know they are together and today I want to celebrate them both.

"My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones. Today and always."

Sophie also shared snaps of the pair enjoying a celebratory drink as she wrote: "Corrr it’s been a long time coming but after a year - a whole YEAR - we have FINALLY wrapped on Gentleman Jack s2!

"Big, enormous love to our absolutely incredible cast and crew who put in a Herculean effort to battle pandemics, loss, births, floods and plagues of locusts to bring this beautiful love story back to our screens.

"And big love to my wife, our team captain @suranne_jones who showed us all the way. And who knows how to drink cheap champagne in a trailer like a TROOPER."
