Supporters surround Aintree Hospital after two staff die with coronavirus

Support surrounded Aintree Hospital after two of their staff members died with coronavirus this week.

Hundreds of neighbours lined the streets around the hospital alongside police officers who carried out a guard of honour at 8pm when the nation once again took part in the #ClapforCarers campaign.

Stunning video footage showed the support around the affected hospital as others also showed their support in a number of unique ways.

A touching flyover message was also organised by Peter Robinson, owner of Charlotte Lucy’s Fitted Bedrooms.

Dozens of hospital workers came outside during their breaks to see the message "Thank you NHS and front line services" trailed across the sky over Liverpool.

Brave Liz died on Friday after testing positive for  coronavirus, with people across the country rushing to  pay tribute to her.

The 68-year-old has been described as  "selfless" and a "hero"  by those who knew her and were treated by her during her long career.

Liz's death was confirmed by Dianne Brown, Chief Nurse at Aintree Hospital.

Speaking to the ECHO, she said: "It is with great sadness that I can confirm that Liz Glanister, a long-serving Staff Nurse at Aintree University Hospital, sadly passed away at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital on Friday after being tested positive for Covid-19.

“All our thoughts are with Liz’s family at this time and we offer them our sincere condolences.

"Liz will be sadly missed by all those who knew and worked with her."

Barbara Moore, 54, was a patient discharge planner who made sure patients were able to leave the  hospital  with the right support.

Her devastated family said in a statement: "Barbara was a much loved wife, mum, nan, sister, aunty, friend and beautiful person.

"Barbara dedicated her life to caring for others and doted on her two beautiful children and grandchildren.

"She loved nothing more than spending precious time with her family. Barbara will be sadly missed by so many.”

A spokesman for Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Aintree, said: "It is with incredible sadness that the trust have today confirmed the death of one of their members of staff, Barbara Moore, aged 54, who had tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19).

"Barbara, a patient discharge planner at Aintree University Hospital, passed away on Monday, 6 April, at the  Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

"Barbara had joined the hospital team after spending most of her career as a care worker for people with disabilities."

The third weekly organised applause, which sees hundreds line the streets outside their homes, comes as deaths on Merseyside continue to rise from coronavirus.

The number of people who have died at Liverpool's hospitals after falling ill with coronavirus now stands at 113.

According to official figures, the vast majority of those died at the hospitals run by the Royal Liverpool Trust - which includes the Royal, Broadgreen and Aintree hospitals.

This overall number has risen by ten since yesterday's update.

Latest NHS England figures show that one more coronavirus death has been recorded in Wirral, taking the peninsular's total to 47 at present.

Tragedies are also mounting at the Southport and Ormskirk Trust - which runs hospitals in both towns - with four more deaths recorded creating a total of 38.

The Trust covering St Helens and Whiston Hospitals has sadly registered a further six deaths in today's update and has a total of 34 overall.

Three more deaths at the Warrington and Halton Hospital Trust mean 20 people have now died there after testing positive for Covid-19.

Sadly these figures refer only to the people who have sadly died in hospitals after being tested for coronavirus.

It is feared that the overall figures will be significantly higher when factoring in people who have died at home - or in care homes.

In total, a further 887 people have died from coronavirus in the UK, bringing the death toll to 7,248.

NHS England has confirmed 756 more people have died in its hospitals, bringing the total number of deaths from 6,483 to 7,248.

Patients were aged between 24 and 103 years old.

43 of the 765 patients (aged between 33 and 99 years old) had no known underlying health condition.

Their families have been informed.
