'Support for Rashford shows cynical Johnson and devious Patel are on the wrong side'

Amazing support for Marcus Rashford after the racist damage to his mural in Manchester is the real England.

We are a vibrant, diverse country of hardworking people who defend our own and believe in the values of fairness and decency.

That is why cynical Boris Johnson and devious Home Secretary Priti Patel find themselves on the wrong side of public opinion.

The depressingly predictable racist abuse of England footballers such as Rashford is the bigotry of morons. They are the enemies of tolerance and unity.

The warped people who spread poison online or go on violent rampages are the enemy of the people.

Johnson and Patel have pandered to this minority in the hope of political gain.

In viewing most working class communities as dens of knuckle-scraping bigots, the Tory high command showed it is out of touch.

Most folk are open-minded, inclusive, respectable and polite – judging others on how they behave, not by the colour of their skin.

Johnson and Patel offered succour to the mob who booed England players taking a
knee to express opposition to discrimination, including racism.

Patel dismissed it as “gesture politics”. It shows why sport stars needed to take a stand.

Racism is evil and there can be no fence-sitting. Gareth Southgate, Rashford and the public are on the side of good. Johnson and Patel backed the bad.
