KOCHI: District collector Jafar has Malik directed the authorities concerned to ensure that drinking water must be distributed via tankers in places where water scarcity is severe.
He said that those places must be identified as per the committees held at panchayat level. Water tankers must be deployed in places where drinking water distribution is not happening either through the pipelines of Kerala water authority (KWA) or other projects. The collector also said that the tankers used for drinking water distribution must have GPS system installed on them. Also, the water must be filled in only from the pumping facilities of KWA.
The panchayat authorities should have all requisite details of the tankers and the same should be handed over to KWA. These details include the vehicle registration number, driver’s name etc.
Also, a separate register must be kept in the panchayat office which should have the vehicle and driver details. The amount of water distributed and the time of distribution too must be recorded.
The rent for the tanker, drivers’ salary and other related expenses must be met using the money from the own funds of the panchayats. tnn
