Supervision for Wishaw man who harassed partner and threw stones at her windows

A Wishaw man harassed his partner after the breakdown of their relationship.

Anthony McGurk accused the woman of cheating on him, locked her out of her house in Beauly Crescent, Wishaw and threw stones at the windows.

McGurk, 26, of Dimsdale Road, was placed under supervision for 18 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

He was handed a non-harassment order that prevents him from any contact with his ex for a year.

At an earlier hearing McGurk was found guilty of engaging in a course of abusive behaviour towards the woman between April 2019 and July that year.

Sheriff Daniel Kelly also convicted him of conduct that caused fear to the woman’s next door neighbours.

The court heard McGurk threw stones at their windows, shouted abuse and damaged a vehicle.

Defence agent Stephen MacBride urged Sheriff Kelly not to jail his client, saying there has been no contact with his ex since these offences.

Sheriff Kelly said a recommendation by social workers to put McGurk under supervision “seems sensible”.
