Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick says his 'life unraveled' when his dog got hit by a car in front of him

Supervet star Noel Fitzpatrick has opened up about the 'traumatic' moment his dog got hit by a car.

The vet was out for a walk with his terrier Keira when a van came speeding around the corner and run her over.

Speaking on Thursday's episode of This Morning, Noel said his "life unraveled" when she had the accident, but thankfully Keira is "doing a little better" now.

He said: "When you hear your dog, the love of your life for 13 years who has been through the ups and downs with you, being crushed and you're two feet away from the wheel, your life unravels in front of your eyes."

Noel recalled how strange it was to be for the first time the dog owner in the other chair who is discussing their pet's health with the vet.

Keira suffered internal organ damage and a badly fractured pelvis.

"I was just an emotional wreck, I was useless," he admitted.

Keira was treated at Noel's own vet practice in Surrey.

He even operated on her himself, which he called "intense".

The little pooch is now in recovery.

Also in the interview he spoke about how Keira and his Maine Coon cat Ricochet have been there for him.

Noel added: "They've saved my life, emotionally they're there for me all the time.

"Everybody can relate to this during lockdwon, there's never been a time where animals are more important to us than now, looking after our emotional wellbeing and our mental health."
